ALGEBRA 1
The eighth grade Algebra 1 course is a continuation of the seventh grade math course. This second year course focuses on more advanced topics from the New York State Algebra 1 domains.
The instruction will be rigorous and concentrate on developing a particular skill and text.
The following topics will be covered:
1. real numbers
2. rational expressions
3. expanding & factoring polynomials
4. linear equations with one and two variables
5. quadratic equations, and systems of equations
6. functions
7. coordinate geometry
8. bi-variate data analysis.
Most importantly, students taking this course will take two state exams.
The first exam is the 8th grade Math exam in May 2018.
The second is the Algebra I Common Core Regents exam in June 2018.
After the completion of the course and obtaining a passing regents grade, students will receive high school credit.
